After I retired from Nike in 2019, I started 6453 ALUMNI, a network for former Nike colleagues and retired Nike-sponsored athletes to connect from all over the world. Having worked at Nike with Matt Watson in the past, I was really interested in involving him and his agency in some of the events we were planning for 6453 ALUMNI. Watson quickly became experiential in our global sustainability organization. Our nonprofit organization hired Funnelbox to film a multi-day project (including round table discussions, 1:1 interviews, and intimate group conversations) for the purpose of producing a teaser video for an academic program. Filming, production, and edits spanned months, and we are thankful to have had such a capable, artful, and professional partner in Funnelbox. Subject matter for our project was often dense and communicated without much context or review, but the FBX team had no trouble helping us map out an intellectual and narrative roadmap for our project. And during the scriptwriting and drafting process, we were surprised by the team’s ability to connect footage from diverse interviews and sessions into a cogent and gripping story. As we provided feedback on narrative, images, and the general feel, FBX accurately reflected our wishes in updated drafts, and, maybe more importantly, advised us when our preferences or ideas might muddy the video’s flow or detract from the viewer experience. The final product is a compelling and thoughtful account of our academic field and was much enjoyed by all who participated in filming. We would be more than happy to work with Funnelbox again.
