My expertise is with small to medium size B2B businesses and enthusiast-type catalog/e-commerce B2C enterprises.  A strategic email marketing program greatly contributes to email marketing success and consists of two steps.

The first is an email program strategic audit.
The second, if appropriate, is to direct or execute the program’s day-to-day tactics.

My Seven Step Strategy Audit ©️

1. Coordinate and articulate the email marketing strategy with the overall 50,000-foot business’ strategy.

2. Audit the current email marketing implementation. This includes documenting the overall email marketing infrastructure, list(s) health and composition, ESP capabilities and support available and utilized along with email workflow and content creative (SEO, graphics, and consistency.)

3. Calculate 8 Key Performance Indicators for delivery, engagement and ROI and establish benchmarks vs the appropriate industry.

4. Create and implement an Email Marketing Dashboard using the current ESP’s reporting capability or built internally.

6. Monitor and review on a schedule appropriate to the business and strategic goal.

7. Make recommendations for change. Outsourcing day-to-day management of an email account is more about “doing than thinking.” It is the execution of planned tactical actions supporting strategic goals, reacting, and modifying to contact trends, calculating, and improving KPI’s, and testing everything.
