The option to claim your Google+ URL has been a long-awaited feature for the community. Finally, Google has been slowly rolling out custom URLs to all users throughout the past several weeks. In this blog post, we are excited to show you how to quickly complete these custom URLs for your Google Plus page. Please note: If you have not received the option to change your own URL yet, be patient and it will come as long as all the requirements are met (see criteria below).
As a result of adding a custom URL to your page, visitors will be able to find your brand much more easily. Moreover, your custom URL will be officially linked to your webpage. You can be positive that this will benefit your online visibility in the Google search engines.
Criteria to Claiming Your Custom Google+ URL
In order to qualify for the claiming process, Google makes sure that you follow specific guidelines. According to the Official Page of Google+, you are able to claim a personalized URL if you have a profile photograph, at least 10 Google Plus followers, and an account that is at least 30 days old.
For Local Google Plus pages, you must be a verified business. Additionally for non-local pages, you must be linked to a website.
A brand or business that already has a linked website or a verified local business can instantly gain a custom URL. You may also receive an email that notifies you of your eligibility.
Begin Claiming Your Google+ URL
1. If you followed the above criteria, a notification bar should appear at the top of your Google Plus page.
2. Go to the top of the page, and click “Get URL.”
3. In most cases, your URL is custom generated based on your Google Plus page title. However, if your page title is not available to be customized, you are asked to add a few characters to create a unique URL. In either case, you should agree to the terms and conditions to continue.
4. Click “Confirm” to verify the change to the URL.
5. Congratulations! You have successfully claimed your very own Google Plus URL.
