Question One: I am trying to decide if I should use Tumblr or WordPress for my business blog. What are some pros and cons of each tool?
Our Response: This is a great question! There are pros and cons for all the blog hosts out there. For your target audience, a Tumblr blog might be a good fit. The Tumblr network is great for design and simplicity. It holds colorful images, is easy to customize, and looks impactful. However, Tumblr is not meant to be wordy so if you want to write a lot of content on your blog, it might not be the right choice.
We like WordPress because it’s free to build, offers many plug-ins, and a very popular choice in the blogging world. However, it can be intimidating at first if you are not a professional web designer. You just need to spend some time understanding it. There is also tons of help out there on the web including close-knit communities. We wrote a post about creating a WordPress blog for your website if you are interested in learning more.
Either selection you choose will help you create some great content and more traffic for your business – Good luck!
Question Two: What would you recommend as backlinks for my school site? I only have three backlinks right now. How should I go about adding backlinks correctly? My current website is only a few months old even though I’ve had a websites at this web address for several years.
Our Response: You can submit your site to various authoritative educational online directories similar to the ones you’ve already completed. It’s important to hit that educational target audience of yours and build strong backlinks. Another idea is to write guest posts on other blogs and resource websites. Or, another idea is to sponsor a local club, event, or team. Recently, we put together a list of high-quality link-building ideas that don’t include much writing here.
In addition, make sure to promote your local website and share it on your social profiles! No matter what next steps you take, it will still take a fair amount of effort, but down the road you are certain to see changes over time if you put forth the effort.
