Question One: I found a local directory that offers a paid membership. However, if you do not pay for the listing, it will not post a link to your website. Do you recommend to still move forward with this link or would that be seen as wasted time?

Our Response: In this case, we would say simply go forward with the free listing that it offers. It is probably not necessary to pay for the listing unless it’s a top quality directory. Overall, adding your listing to these free and valuable local directories will help increase your presence and ranking in search engines even if you aren’t receiving a direct link.If you need to be careful with your budget, we would suggest prioritizing the best paid directories that match your target audience and goals (Yahoo, DexKnows, Best of the Web Local, etc) before buying everything at once.

Question Two: How do you feel about the update from Matt Cutts regarding guest blogging?

Our Response: With Matt Cutts’ recent blog post warning about SPAM posts, we advise your business to be much more cautious when it comes to accepting guest posts on your website. Although you don’t have to turn away every single person, it is important to think about publishing writers who produce meaningful and quality content for your target audience. When it comes to your website’s guest blogging policy, create a clear submission process and stick to detailed editing before going live with quality content. Although you are offered free content to post on your website from happy emailers, we do not advice you to post until reading it carefully.
