Question One: In our business, we receive customers mainly through referrals. Do you have any ideas on how to do that? We’ve tried promotional deals through our store items, but haven’t seen a whole lot of traction.

Our Response: There are several ways to get referrals to your ecommerce site. You can offer discounts through social sharing campaigns, contests that increase consumers’ chances to win by asking friends to participate, and so on.

There are also many applications you can integrate with your online store for improved referrals, like Referral Candy and Referral Saasquatch. Check out more top referrals apps through a quick Google search for additional information.

You can also focus on providing better customer service to increase levels of word-of-mouth. Although this method is not as quick or efficient as promotions and referral apps, it’s much more solid and reliable for your reputation in the long run.

Question Two: How often should we respond on social media? We receive mentions fairly often. Are there parameters on who you should respond to?

Our Response: Ideally, you should respond as soon as possible to your mentions online. This demonstrates that you’re paying attention to customers’ opinions of your brand. You may feel like responding is an afterthought, but consider the actions of most companies. According to AdEspresso, the majority of businesses respond to comments on social media within a few days. The next longest period of time before responding for businesses is just within the same day.

Do you know how many respond within five minutes? Nine percent. This is where you want your business’s level of performance.

Set yourself apart from the competition by responding as soon as you can.
