Question 1: I’m struggling with determining the best keywords for my business. What if the best keywords in my niche have a small number of searches?

Our Response:  It is important that you always review the competition, search volume, and traffic of your selections. We recommend choosing keywords that have a good mix. Focus on a decent amount of search traffic but not so much traffic that they become extremely competitive in terms of getting good rankings.

Competition that is very high will be difficult to achieve higher rankings. From your list of keywords chosen right now in our application, we suggest you consider a couple keywords with competition that is lower than 10.0 (ranked from a scale of 10 as the highest competition).

Question 2: With Facebook’s new promotions rule, can I utilize a promotion on my own personal Facebook page? I do not own a business.

Our Response: Facebook now allows business to post promotions in their apps and timelines. Previously, companies could only promote via apps. However, the existing rule still applies: businesses are not allowed to promote on their own Timelines. We hope that you are still able to run your planned event!

The example below includes a current Facebook contest from Redfin, a real estate business, and Room & Board, a furniture and accessories seller.

Question 3: I am based in Australia and finding it difficult to find link-building opportunities such as DMOZ. Help!

Our Response: DMOZ is available in AustraliaClick to view our past post on how to submit your site to DMOZ. You should be able to find plenty of link-building opportunities for your business, no matter where your company is located!  If you are looking for a specific local directory, like Yahoo or Google, most of them do offer Australian versions.
