Our Story
We believe that every business can tell a great story, no matter how large or small the business size.
UpCity was not thought of out of the blue. For many years, Patrick Gavin, a respected and well-known search engine optimizer, was overwhelmed by e-mails from small businesses. They would question Patrick with, "Here's my website. Can you help me rank it?"
The trouble is that only a handful of truly knowledgeable search engine optimizers are available for hire. A larger number of small businesses need SEO help. Patrick asked his friend, Andy Hagans, another professional search engine optimizer with a reputation for grumpy competence, "Do you think we could build a SEO software platform that would automate our SEO strategy in a scalable way? We could then help any small business with their SEO because I feel guilty each month telling dozens of small businesses I can't give them the help they need."
Their answer was funding, planning, and building UpCity. Patrick's in-depth knowledge of link building and SEO from his long career as the Text Link Ads founder, along with Andy's "in the trenches" viewpoint from building and ranking hundreds of websites in various niches, ensure they are not "academic SEOs." The entire UpCity Team is focused on the same goal. Julie Zare's past successful experience with executing client marketing campaigns and Dan Olson's expertise with implementing complex technical solutions ensures that the UpCity product is not some clunky software for nerds; it's smart, but it's accessible to small business owners. SEO is about results, and UpCity helps small businesses achieve the SEO results they need at a price point they can afford.
The UpCity site launched in March 2010 after several months of developing, testing, revising, and launch of the blog. That's the start of how UpCity came to be, and we hope the success of UpCity will be added to our story.
